Cache is a monthly electronic music night  in Birmingham, which is a strictly vinyl only underground event, catering for mostly deep house, minimal and techno sounds. We’ve been running for just over a year now, in which time we’ve been fortunate to grow our largely minimal underground brand in a city that is heavily saturated by bassline and commercial house. What started as a night for friends and friends of friends has now blossomed into a family of followers – which we’re very proud of. Since our conception, we have had the pleasure to host Florian Kupfer (L.I.E.S) and Joe Ellis (Untilmyheartshops & Freero fest).

Unlike any other night in the city, we also unite Birmingham’s creative sectors by showcasing artwork created by local artists and in affiliation with art organisations, which is then projected on the night – a perfect accompaniment to our sound. For our next event on the Friday 7 August at The Bulls Head, Moseley, we are absolutely thrilled to introduce headline artist Pavel Rtue, a Ukrainian graffiti artist, who is making serious headway in the street art scene in his home country. Most notably, our connection with Pavel comes with an interesting backstory.

Last year, my boyfriend and Cache resident Christy, had a Facebook message from Pavel a man living in Crimea, Ukraine, claiming to be in possession of his lost passport which he had misplaced in a taxi along with his coat the previous year. It turned out, to his amazement that the guy who had got in contact with him had found the passport contained within a coat he had bought; the same coat Christy had also left in the taxi. Rather than call for ransom and adopt a similar approach to one in the film ‘Taken’, he then went out of his way to return the passport, which is an incredible achievement considering the ongoing problems in Crimea at the time. Pavel, managed to get the passport through the ‘rebel’ stronghold to another friend living in Kiev and to his relief, Christy finally received the passport shortly after. After thanking him, it turns out Pavel was also an incredibly talented street and graffiti artist who has contributed his work for our next showcase.
