The campaign to keep open Moseley Road swimming baths has won the backing of a group which gives support and grants to develop community businesses.

The Bright Ideas Fund is part funded by the Department for Communities and Local Government. It is hoped that by working with this group and other partners including the National Trust and Historic England, Moseley Road Baths Action Group (MRBAG) can find a solution to keep the City Council run baths open beyond this summer.

MRBAG has produced a business plan which argues that a community run pool would be financially viable and continue to provide health and wellbeing benefits to the community, while respecting the historic purpose of the building. The plan would be based on a part-staffed and part-volunteer business model. It is further argued that keeping swimming going will prevent the building being vandalised, leaving a big gap with the ‘high street’, looking neglected and costing us all more in the long run. All now depends on MRBAG coming to an agreement with the City Council.

In the meantime MRBAG are looking for finance to kick-start the initiative, and volunteers to help look after the beautiful building and its swimmers. If you can help, or even just to express your support, please complete this quick survey:
