Hare & Hounds 10th Anniversary Celebration
Friday, 31st March 2017
The Hare and Hounds, Kings Heath (winner of the best live music pub in the UK 2016) celebrated the 10th anniversary of the Victorian pub, reverting to a major Birmingham music venue on Saturday 25th February, with an uplifting night of dance-floor filling great music.
DJ Sunflower expertly set the scene, followed by the Atlantic Players who delivered their usual high quality Southern Soul set, bringing new life to forgotten classics. Having seen the Players a few times, this was one of their best sets yet. Junior Blackwood immediately and energetically builds a rapport with the audience. Their joyful, soulful sound brings alive music of a bygone era, filling the dance floor. The Atlantic Players are a collection of fantastic musicians who have a palpable love and passion for the music.
Check out their recently released first video ‘Drowning on Dry Land’ on YouTube. For the live experience, see them at the Mostly Jazz Funk and Soul Festival, 7-9 July 2017.
Headlining the night was the super-cool Kevin Rowland of Dexys Midnight Runners fame (now renamed ‘Dexys’). He still writes and performs music, but has also developed a reputation as an excellent DJ and can be seen regularly playing at some of the top London venues. Rowland has a wonderful and unique DJ style combining classic anthems with neglected gems and using the space within the tracks to add his own emotional vocals, complementing and enhancing the music.
A hugely successful anniversary celebration – here’s looking forward to the next 10 years!
